It sure is! Criminals are hacking into our devices and systems in record numbers and becoming more sophisticated. Our connected world has made us highly vulnerable. This is no surprise when you consider that people are increasingly running their lives from their laptops and smartphones. It goes beyond a big corporation having a data breach or a bad actor stealing your credit card information. Cybercrime is any criminal activity that involves a computer, networked device or a network. While most cybercrimes are carried out in order to generate profit for the cybercriminals, some cybercrimes are carried out against computers or devices directly to damage or disable them. The personal and financial impacts of a cyberattack can be devastating.
The high cost of cyberattacks makes going without cyber insurance a real financial risk for individuals and families. 56% of cybercrime victims spent between $500 and $3,000 on data restoration and software and hardware purchases. The average home cyber claim is $10,000! And 42% of victims spent 6 to 10 hours correcting their credit information, monitoring their identity or correcting official records. The Federal Bureau of Investigations (2021 Internet Crime Report) received 847,000 reported claims from American consumers in 2021, with losses that exceed $6.9 billion. Criminals are hacking into our devices and systems in record numbers! MyCyberProtection™ was specially designed to provide comprehensive coverage to protect consumers in this ever-changing world.
That is one of our most common questions. When we talk about “cybercrime,” we’re talking about the criminal activities of hackers and fraudsters who profit by taking advantage of consumers. Online fraud, data breach, identity theft and computer attack are examples of cybercrime.
Cyber insurance provides a comprehensive set of coverages for financial losses you might experience as a result of a cyberattack, whereas identity theft coverage reimburses you for the expenses associated with restoring your identity but doesn’t cover any direct financial losses you might experience as a result of the theft.

The Identity Recovery Coverages limit is available to each individual covered under your policy (unlike the Cyber Coverages Limit, which applies in total, regardless of the number of individuals covered). It is subject to a maximum of $25,000 per individual, even if you select a higher cyber limit. That’s because we want to ensure each member of your family has adequate coverage to recovery from an identity theft. Additionally, no deductible applies to the Identity Recovery Coverages.
